Our time is now. . .
Listening to President Haynes’ convocation speech yesterday, I was personally inspired by her call to action. Although the campus embraces strategic planning and aligning our allocation of resources to our campus strategic priorities and objectives, we must act…now. And while it is certainly cliché to say that “today is the tomorrow that we planned for yesterday,” it speaks to our need to take specific actions currently as we plan for our future. Recalling how the Pacific Institute training that we received emphasizes empowerment and accountability, we know that when we think of the future in the present tense, we are more likely to achieve our goals, our objectives, and our priorities.
As you look at the Finance and Administrative Services 2006-07 Goals, think of the action plans that will allow us to achieve those goals, the ways in which we might measure our successes, and the sense of accomplishment that we’ll share as we work to carry out the mission, vision, and values of FAS and the University. I was very proud to witness the Honor Roll of Achievements at Convocation and your many accomplishments – when we step back to revisit the last year, you can all be proud of all that you have achieved.
As the President mentioned, there is much work to do. I can hardly wait to see your honor roll of achievements at next year’s Convocation – if we refer back to our FAS Goals, perhaps they’ll give us a peek into the future of the success stories that we’ll be sharing with the campus in Fall 2007.
Our time is now.
CABO San Marcos
Our campus will host the bi-monthly meeting of the Chief Administrators and Business Officers (CABO) on August 15 and 16, 2006. Attending will be the Vice Presidents for Administration and Finance from the 23 CSU campuses, plus 16 officers from the Chancellor’s Office, headed by Executive Vice Chancellor and Chief Financial Officer Richard West. President Haynes will welcome the group and host a dinner for the them on the evening of Tuesday, August 15. I look forward to sharing the great work that our employees do, and to showcase our beautiful campus.
FAS Students Move into the Winner’s Circle
In a pilot program to share the now familiar training from The Pacific Institute (TPI) and brought to you by the folks in Human Resources and Equal Opportunity, a group of FAS students will learn about the benefits of self-efficacy, empowerment, and accountability. The training that we know as Imagine 21 has been slightly repackaged and will now be known as Investment In Excellence (IIE). We look forward to hearing from our students how they incorporate the tools and information into their work and personal lives as well as their education. We also plan to bring IIE training to the Council for University Strategic Planning (CUSP), a group represented by all divisions, responsible for supporting the campus’ effort to align budgeting and resource allocation with strategic planning. For those interested in subscribing to free daily email messages from TPI, you may subscribe at Winner’s Circle. We use education and information to help our community learn how to "manage change, set and achieve goals, lead more effectively, and think in ways that create success."
